The mission of the Orange County Gang Investigators Association is to build relationships and networks that share intelligence specifically related to gangs and their activity. OCGIA is committed to the education and development of its members, in order to better serve the community.
The Orange County Gang Investigators Association (OCGIA) was formed in 1978 by various local law enforcement agencies within the county. The purpose of the organization was to broaden the gang intelligence network and to help strengthen the efforts against gangs and gang activity countywide. Since then, the association has grown and developed into a professional organization that is fully committed to its members.
The goals of OCGIA are to provide the tools, information, and resources that are needed to effectively suppress, investigate, and prosecute gang participants in a more professional and ethical manner. The organization has cultivated civilian and law enforcement relationships that extend beyond the county’s borders. These affiliations help the OCGIA membership to better understand and combat the deeply rooted and multifaceted gang problems that plague Orange County communities.
Although the answers to the gang problems appear to be intangible, OCGIA recognizes that a methodical assessment of this complex issue is essential. In an effort to reach a practical solution, OCGIA encourages the utilization of a systems approach analysis, and offers a professional atmosphere for education and the exchange of information.
OCGIA assists law enforcement professionals through training and other methods to suppress gangs and reduce gang violence. Membership is limited to sworn law enforcement officers and parole and probation officers working within or assigned to a law enforcement agency located in or in proximity to Orange County, California, the duties of which persons are in furtherance of the mission of the Corporation.
The mission of the OCGIA is to moderate a forum for the exchange of intelligence and provide ongoing professional development training for our membership to enhance investigative techniques and officer safety so as to better combat gang crime in the communities we serve.
